PICKit 2 Clone ZIF Socket

This is a clone version of Microchip’s programmer PICKit 2, the design is based on Microchip’s schematic shown on PICKit’s user manual. The main difference is that the clone version doesn’t have a ICSP (In Circuit Serial Programming) connector, instead it has a ZIF (Zero Insertion Force) socket.

The programmer is fully compatible with PICKit 2 v2.61 and IDE MPLAB because the firmware on the PIC is the same developed by Microchip. The compatible microcontrollers are the following:

  • PIC10F (DIP8)
  • PIC12F (DIP8)
  • PIC16F (DIP14, 18, 20, 28 y 40)
  • PIC18F (DIP18, 20, 28 y 40)
  • dsPIC30F (DIP28 y 40)

I didn’t developed this clone, this kind of programmer can be found at some electronics shops since a couple years ago. I only inverse engineered it to generate the schematic and PCB.
