This is a clone version of Microchip’s programmer PICKit 2. The design is based on the schematic shown in Microchip’s user manual for the PICKit. The main difference is that the clone version doesn’t have an ICSP (In Circuit Serial Programming) connector, but instead has a ZIF (Zero Insertion Force) socket.
The programmer is fully compatible with PICKit 2 v2.61 and the IDE MPLAB, as the firmware on the PIC is the same as that developed by Microchip. The following microcontrollers are compatible:
- PIC10F (DIP8)
- PIC12F (DIP8)
- PIC16F (DIP14, 18, 20, 28 y 40)
- PIC18F (DIP18, 20, 28 y 40)
- dsPIC30F (DIP28 y 40)
I did not develop this clone; it has been available in some electronics shops for a couple of years. I only reverse engineered it to generate the schematic and PCB.
